Bodhicharyavatara Online Course

Led by Shedra teacher, Chantal Bergers, this course will study Shantideva’s classic text, the Bodhicharyavatara or the Way of the Bodhisattva, over the course of this next year. This online course will be based on teachings being given at the Rigpa Shedra in Nepal in 2019 and will follow a Shedra approach to studying a classical Buddhist text but converted to an accessible online format.

This course will follow the root text of the Bodhicharyavatara and the well-known commentary by Khenpo Kunpal, the Nectar of Manjushri’s Speech. Khenpo Kunpal studied the Bodhicharyavatara extensively with Patrul Rinpoche and his commentary not only contains a beautiful explanation of Shantideva’s verses, but is also a treasure trove of background knowledge that is invaluable for a good understanding of buddhist philosophy.

Chantal Bergers, MD has been a Rigpa student since 2002. She has been studying in the shedra for eight years, and was the first Westerner to teach the Bodhicharyavatara in the Rigpa Shedra East in 2016 at the request of Khenchen Namdrol. Since 2017 she has been part of the Milinda Program, a project established by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche to train Buddhist teachers for the West.
